Ranikhet

Ranikhet is a 1,869 m cantonment of orchards, golf greens and regimental quiet – the Kumaon Regiment’s home, about 350 km from Delhi, where Jhula Devi’s bells outnumber tourists and the fruit orchards run down sunlit slopes. It is the honeymoon-and-slow-weekend answer to “which hill station has no crowds”.

Quick facts

Altitude ~1,869 m
From Delhi ~350 km (9–10 hrs)
Best months March–June, September–November
Ideal stay 2–3 days
Known for Kumaon Regiment, Chaubatia orchards, golf course, quiet

What to do

  • Jhula Devi temple – centuries of bells hung by answered prayers, minutes from town.
  • Chaubatia Gardens – the state orchard: apples, apricots, peaches and a fruit-research legacy.
  • Upat golf course – one of the highest golf courses in Asia, maintained by the army.
  • Bhalu Dam – a small, pretty reservoir walk in the forest.
  • Majkhali views – the Trishul face on clear days; sunset corner.

How to reach

Kathgodam railhead (~80 km); drive from Delhi in 9–10 hours via Nainital or Bhimtal. It pairs naturally with Almora and Mukteshwar in a Kumaon loop.

Best time and practicalities

March–June and September–November; winter is cold and quiet with occasional snow. Honeymooners: this is the pick in our honeymoon itinerary. Cantonment rules apply in parts – respect signage.
