Kanatal is the camping hamlet of the Mussoorie–Chamba ridge – around 2,300–2,600 m of apple orchards, pine slopes and star-heavy nights, 30 minutes from Dhanaulti and an hour from Mussoorie. It exists for one reason: bonfire-and-tent weekends that feel far away from everything while being an easy drive from Delhi.

What to do
- Camp under the deodars – the belt’s tented stays with bonfires and games are the whole point.
- Tehri lake drive – the dam reservoir’s blue expanse makes a great half-day loop (Tehri district).
- Kodia Forest – forest walks and barking deer; spring wildflowers.
- Surkanda Devi trek – the ridge temple is close via Kaddukhal.
How to reach
Dehradun railhead; drive via Mussoorie–Dhanaulti road. It is a 1–2 night add-on, not a standalone long trip.
Best time and practicalities
March–June for camping weather; December–winter for frosty nights and occasional snow. Camp inventory is small – book ahead for long weekends (camping guide).
