Auli is a two-season destination: December to March for snow and skiing (January-February carry the deepest, most settled cover) and April to June for meadows and the ropeway without the winter gear. September-October is the quiet clear-view window. The monsoon (July-August) closes the show – cloud, leeches and slippery slopes.
The windows compared
| Window | What you get | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| December | Season opens; first reliable cover | Good for early snow, festive rates after the 25th |
| January-February | Deepest snowpack; peak ski conditions | The winter window |
| March | Spring snow, softening slopes | Late-season skiing with thinner crowds |
| April-June | Green meadows, ropeway, trekking | The meadow season |
| September-October | Clear views of Nanda Devi | The quiet bonus window |
Good to know
- Skiing: courses and gear run December-March; book early for January-February weekends (skiing in Auli).
- Getting up: the ropeway from Joshimath is the scenic route – verify its operating status in winter.
- Snow odds elsewhere: compare with Chopta and Dhanaulti in the snowfall calendar.
