Kedarkantha Trek

Kedarkantha is India’s most-loved winter summit – a 3,810 m peak inside the Govind Pashu Vihar near Sankri, with a summit that rises like a cone above pine forests and campsites under snow. The classic December–February route delivers guaranteed snowplay, a real (if manageable) summit day, and beginner-friendly logistics.

Quick facts

Summit 3,810 m
Base Sankri (~450–480 km from Delhi)
Duration 6 days ex-Dehradun (4 trek days)
Grade Easy–moderate
Best window December–April (snow Dec–Feb); clear skies Mar–Apr

The route in brief

Dehradun → Sankri (drive, 8–9 hrs) → Juda Ka Talab camp → summit day (start pre-dawn, forest ridges to the open summit cone, 360° views of Swargarohini, Bandarpunch and the Gangotri range) → descend to Hargaon → Sankri → Dehradun. Camps are in snow clearings; nights run 0 to −10°C in winter (snow guide).

Who it suits and what it costs
